UK newspaper editorials
This project was a collaboration with Carbon Brief, particularly Josh Gabbatiss, Joe Goodman and Tom Prater.

Using a database collected over time by the team at Carbon Brief, I designed a codebook to analyse editorials published in UK newspapers between 2011 and 2022. The purpose of this analysis was to investigate the stance that editorials have taken to climate action over this period, and whether there has been any change. Broadly, the analysis captured whether the editorials were pro-climate action, or anti-climate action, and investigated themes involved with these stances to understand the narratives and discourses being used.
We were inspired by recent ideas in the literature of Discourses of Delay, and the team at Carbon Brief wanted to test their anecdotal feelings about the way that UK newspaper editorials had changed over the past decade.

This work was published as an interactive Carbon Brief analysis, which you can read below. The work is also currently under review at Environmental Communication.
